CREATING IMPACT IN OUR COMMUNITIES AND BEYOND
CREATIVE WELLNESS WORKSHOPS
creative wellness workshops are spaces where we explore ourselves and our stories through visual art and dialogue. we use art as a language and tool for healing and discovery.
storytelling is a vital element in the "to move mountains" film project. these workshops invite the community to share stories of women & girls in their lives who have made an impact. they serve as an opportunity to learn more about the lives of the women featured in the film.
I BE YOUR WATER Project
“I Be Your Water” is a large scale triptych that captures the physical presence, essence and the story of three distinctive women Nina Angela Mercer, dequi kioni sadiki and Chanel Porchia - who are committed to the global Black freedom struggle for survival in America. Each portrait measures at 8x5ft and are made using a collage method with acrylic paint, parachute cloth, fabric, canvas strips and felt. The pieces were inspired by the sweet honey in the rock song and lyrics to "I Be Your water." The portraits are the foundational element of traveling creative wellness workshops centered on uplifting legacies among Black/Brown girls & women. The Project serves community as an opportunity to inspire participants to engage in an intimate creative space through the lens of the "to move mountains' film.
“How can you be an artist and not reflect the times?”
